Milesight EG71 | 8-Channel LoRaWAN Building IoT Gateway with BACnet, KNX & Modbus
Beschreibung
The Milesight EG71 is an intelligent, high-performance edge IoT gateway engineered for smart building automation, energy management, and HVAC control. Powered by a quad-core 1.5 GHz ARM Cortex-A53 processor with 2 GB DDR4 RAM and 32 GB eMMC storage, it unifies wired and wireless field-device connectivity in one compact unit — supporting LoRaWAN, RS485, KNX, and configurable universal I/O alongside mainstream BMS protocols including BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, and HTTP.
With multi-backhaul redundancy across Ethernet, 4G LTE, and Wi-Fi, the EG71 keeps data flowing between field-level sensors, actuators, and cloud or BMS platforms — making it an ideal integration hub for new-build and retrofit projects across commercial buildings, campuses, hotels, and industrial facilities.
Core Capabilities
8-Channel LoRaWAN — 2,000+ Devices 8-channel LoRaWAN with −140 dBm sensitivity and 27 dBm Tx power supports around 2,000 end devices and 20,000 data points. Supports Class A/B/C, FUOTA, Multicast, and a built-in Noise Analyser. Comprehensive Wired Protocol Support Native RS485 (Modbus RTU / BACnet MS/TP) and KNX/TP1, plus 8 universal inputs, 4 dry-contact digital inputs, 3 relay outputs, and 4 analog outputs (0–10 V or 4–20 mA). M-Bus support is under development. Triple Backhaul Redundancy Auto-failover across Ethernet (with 802.3af PoE PD on ETH1), 4G LTE Cat.1, and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) keeps the gateway online even when a primary link drops. Edge Intelligence & Security Python SDK, Node-RED, and Docker for custom BMS logic at the edge. Enterprise-grade security via OpenVPN, IPsec, WireGuard, PPTP, and L2TP, plus a full firewall with access control, DMZ, MAC binding, and IP filtering.Industrial Applications
• Smart Building Automation: Aggregate data from LoRaWAN sensors, KNX actuators, Modbus meters, and legacy BMS systems into one platform — enabling HVAC, lighting, and occupancy-based automation across floors or campuses. • Energy Management & Metering: Connect RS485 energy meters and power monitors via Modbus RTU or BACnet MS/TP to collect granular consumption data for sub-metering, demand response, and ISO 50001 reporting. • BMS Retrofit & Protocol Bridging: Bridge legacy protocols (Modbus, KNX) to modern IP-based systems (BACnet/IP, MQTT, HTTP) for seamless integration into existing infrastructure without a full system replacement. • Hotels, Campuses & Industrial Facilities: Deploy as a single convergence point for environmental sensors, HVAC, and utilities monitoring across large multi-zone facilities, managed centrally via the Milesight Development Platform.Technical Integration
Key points for fitting the EG71 into your building systems:
• Backhaul: Ethernet (802.3af PoE PD on ETH1), 4G LTE Cat.1, and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) with automatic failover. • Field protocols & I/O: LoRaWAN, RS485 (Modbus RTU / BACnet MS/TP), and KNX/TP1, plus 8 universal inputs, 4 dry-contact DI, 3 relay outputs, and 4 analog outputs. Forwards via BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP, MQTT(s), and HTTP(s) (M-Bus under development). • On-device tools: NFC interface (13.56 MHz) to add Milesight LoRaWAN devices on-site, plus a 1.3-inch OLED screen with buttons for status and diagnostics without a laptop. • Management & edge: Configured via Web GUI, CLI (SSH/Telnet), and SNMP; managed remotely through the Milesight Development Platform; Python SDK, Node-RED, and Docker for custom logic at the edge. • Power: 24 V DC/AC terminal block, 802.3af PoE (ETH1), or USB Type-C (5V/3A); when powered over USB, M-Bus and universal inputs may not operate fully. • Mounting & environment: IP30-rated unit (123 × 90 × 36 mm) operating −40 °C to +60 °C. • Setup help: For solution architecture, multi-site deployment, or BMS integration support, contact the shopioT technical team. What's in the Box

Frequently Asked Questions
Which protocols does the EG71 support?
LoRaWAN, RS485 (Modbus RTU / BACnet MS/TP), and KNX/TP1 for acquisition; BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU over TCP, MQTT(s), and HTTP(s) for forwarding. M-Bus support is under development.
How many LoRaWAN devices can it handle?
Around 2,000 end devices and up to 20,000 data points (based on a 10-minute uplink interval), with Class A/B/C, FUOTA, and Multicast support.
What I/O does it provide?
8 universal inputs (software-switchable digital/analog/resistance), 4 dry-contact digital inputs, 3 relay outputs, and 4 analog outputs (0–10 V or 4–20 mA).
How is it powered?
Via a 24 V DC/AC terminal block, 802.3af PoE (ETH1), or USB Type-C (5V/3A). When powered over USB, M-Bus and universal inputs may not function fully.
Can I run custom logic on it?
Yes. The EG71 supports Python SDK, Node-RED, and Docker for custom building logic, data processing, and protocol conversion at the edge.
Is it suitable for retrofits?
Yes — it bridges legacy Modbus and KNX devices to modern BACnet/IP, MQTT, and HTTP platforms, so you can modernise a building without replacing existing field devices.
