Milesight UG65 | 8-Channel Semi-Industrial LoRaWAN Gateway | EU868 & US915 Options
Beschreibung
The Milesight UG65 is a robust 8-channel semi-industrial LoRaWAN gateway for high-performance indoor and sheltered-outdoor IoT. Built on the Semtech SX1302 LoRa chip and a quad-core 64-bit CPU, it handles 2,000+ end nodes with line-of-sight reach up to 15 km (about 2 km in dense urban areas), all inside an IP65-rated enclosure.
Crucially for smart buildings, the UG65 is a Building Management System (BMS) bridge — its embedded network server feeds LoRaWAN sensor data straight into BACnet/IP and Modbus systems. It ships in two backhaul models: Ethernet/Wi-Fi, and Ethernet/Wi-Fi/4G for sites that need cellular failover.
Building Management System (BMS) Integration
The UG65 is designed to drop LoRaWAN data into existing building infrastructure with no rip-and-replace. It exposes BACnet/IP, BACnet/SC, Modbus TCP, and Modbus RTU over TCP, alongside MQTT(s) and HTTP(s) APIs — so wireless sensors become first-class points in your BMS or PLC.
• BACnet over LoRaWAN: LoRaWAN acts purely as the data channel — no changes to your BACnet protocol, network, or devices. A virtual BACnet server makes LoRaWAN sensors appear as native BACnet objects in your management system. A free Milesight BACnet driver is available. • Modbus to BMS/PLC: The gateway integrates LoRaWAN readings into Modbus systems for real-time monitoring in a BMS or PLC, without altering existing infrastructure. • Validated with leading platforms: Proven integration with Niagara (Tridium), Siemens, and J2 Innovations building-automation platforms. • Building-wide group control: Multicast downlinks let a single command reach many devices at once — for example, adjusting HVAC across an entire building in one action.Core Capabilities
High Capacity & Range 8 half/full-duplex channels on the SX1302 chip, −140 dBm sensitivity, and 27 dBm Tx power support around 2,000 Class A/B/C nodes, with SF5/SF6 for faster transmission and a built-in Noise Analyser for clean channel selection. Flexible Backhaul with Failover Gigabit Ethernet (PoE PD) and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi on every model; the Ethernet/Wi-Fi/4G model adds 4G LTE. WAN failover keeps the gateway online when a primary link drops. Embedded Network Server & Fleet Management Built-in LoRaWAN network server with Gateway Fleet, Multicast, FUOTA, packet filtering, and data retransmission. Pre-certified for The Things Stack, ChirpStack, Actility, and AWS, and managed remotely via Milesight DeviceHub / Development Platform. Edge Development & Security Python SDK and Node-RED for custom logic at the edge. Enterprise security via OpenVPN, IPsec, WireGuard, L2TP, PPTP, GRE, and DMVPN, plus firewall with access control, DMZ, MAC binding, and IP/domain filtering.Typical Applications
• Smart Buildings & BMS: Centralise environmental, energy, and occupancy data across office complexes and bridge it into BACnet or Modbus building-automation systems for HVAC and lighting control. • HVAC & Energy Management: Aggregate metering and comfort data, then use multicast control for building-wide HVAC adjustments and demand-driven energy optimisation. • Industrial & Facility Automation: Bridge LoRaWAN sensor data to legacy BMS/PLC infrastructure via BACnet or Modbus without replacing existing systems. • Smart Parking & Large Sites: Cover expansive garages and multi-zone facilities with high-penetration LoRa and high node density from a single gateway.Technical Integration
Key points for fitting the UG65 into your network and building infrastructure:
• Backhaul: Gigabit Ethernet (PoE PD) and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi on every model; the Ethernet/Wi-Fi/4G model adds a 4G LTE modem (Mini SIM, 2FF). WAN failover keeps the gateway online if a primary link drops. • Network server & protocols: Built-in LoRaWAN network server, plus BACnet/IP, BACnet/SC, Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU over TCP, MQTT(s), and HTTP(s) APIs. Also compatible with The Things Stack, ChirpStack, Actility, and AWS as an external LNS. • Management: Configured via Web GUI, CLI (SSH/Telnet), SNMP, HTTP API, and MQTT API; managed remotely through the Milesight DeviceHub or Development Platform. • Power: Flexible DC 9–24 V, 802.3af PoE, or USB Type-C (5V/1A), at a typical 2.9 W (4.2 W max). • Mounting & environment: IP65 PC+ABS enclosure (180 × 110 × 55.5 mm, 548 g) for desktop, wall, or pole mounting; operates −40 °C to +70 °C (reduced cellular performance above 60 °C). • Setup help: For gateway architecture or BMS system design, contact the shopioT technical team. What's in the Box

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the UG65 integrate with a BMS?
It exposes BACnet/IP, BACnet/SC, Modbus TCP, and Modbus RTU over TCP (plus MQTT/HTTP APIs). LoRaWAN sensors appear as native BACnet objects via a virtual BACnet server — with no changes to your existing BACnet devices or management system. A free Milesight BACnet driver is provided.
What's the difference between the two models?
The Ethernet/Wi-Fi model backhauls over wired Ethernet (PoE) and Wi-Fi. The Ethernet/Wi-Fi/4G model adds a 4G LTE modem (Mini SIM, 2FF) for cellular failover where wired/Wi-Fi isn't reliable.
How many devices and what range does it support?
Around 2,000 Class A/B/C nodes, with line-of-sight reach up to 15 km and roughly 2 km in dense urban environments.
Does it need an external network server?
No — it has a built-in network server (with Gateway Fleet, Multicast, and FUOTA). It's also compatible with The Things Stack, ChirpStack, Actility, and AWS if you prefer an external LNS.
How is it powered?
By DC 9–24 V, 802.3af PoE, or USB Type-C (5V/1A), drawing a typical 2.9 W (4.2 W max).
Can I run custom logic on it?
Yes — via Node-RED and a Python SDK for custom applications, data processing, and integrations at the edge.
